Lambert’s Old Label — We Got It in Writing!
Posted Jun 25th 2009 2:00AM by TMZ Staff
Adam Lambert claims the album he recorded pre-”Idol” was nothing more than him singing someone else’s songs — but that just isn’t true.
We’ve obtained an internal memo from two divisions of Adam’s old label, which clearly lists Lambert as the co-writer on nine of the 11 tracks on the album.
Lambert’s new handlers released a statement on his behalf this week condemning the album, which said: “I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else … I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks.”
Ironically — or not — one of the tracks Lambert co-wrote is called “15 Minutes of Fame.”
Can anyone please tell me what’s going on? This whole issue has been nothing but confusing and controversial at the same time. True, “Want” most certainly did not reflect who he was as an artist, but the rest of the songs on the soon-to-be-released album were (co)-written by him. What I don’t understand is that why are the songs supposedly on Adam’s upcoming pre-Idol album a bunch of sings he recorded with his band Citizen Vein and a few demos from MySpace? It’s like someone just compiled his demo songs and burned it on a CD. Meh.
I don’t really know what’s going on, but if Adam’s former record label has been telling the truth all along, it would be very bad publicity for Adam—and by very bad, it could pretty much hurt his career BIG TIME (like those reality TV stars who create lots of scandals to keep them around in the rumor mill). Let’s just hope, for Adam’s career, he isn’t lying one bit.

adam is lying, and trying to cover his ass big time. he has the weight of rca behind him to help legally, but i do believe he was more involved in the production of this album than he has said. he is a great singer, but come on – dude is a famewhore of the highest level, and i can’t see these hi fi guys putting this much of their ass on the line if they didn’t have something backing up their assertion. i’m even starting to feel lambert was the real plant on american idol, instead of that annie girl. and it makes me question the integrity of american idol even more… american idol sucks, this situation for adam sucks, but dude is lying, and should just come clean.
It was obvious from his audition that Adam was a plant in the highest order, and it’s becoming increasingly clear that he’s lying now to cover his ass. RCA and 19E have been conspicuously silent on this whole issue, which means they can’t do a damn thing legally to stop the release of these tracks. American Idol went over the top this season trying to force their chosen winner down the viewer’s throats. The poor sales performance of Adam’s Idol performances and now ‘Want’ at iTunes (which has not even cracked the top 100 downloads since being released) just goes to proves that demand for what he’s selling falls way short of the hype.
An interoffice memo is hardly a legal document and doesn’t prove anything. I read somewhere that Adam’s statement was based on the names of the first two song titles they released which he didn’t write. I don’t think this is as big a deal as the press is making it out to be.
Hey, have you seen this news article?
New details about Michael Jackson’s Death Emerge
I was wondering if you were going to blog about this…
@DonMI: Maybe…for all you know, the media men themselves are also trying to cash in on the Demo scandal. The more they talk about it, the more they promote themselves. LOL
@Michael: Real life just got busy, but I’ll do my best to dedicate an entry for MJ
Cool post, just subscribed.
